Providence Cancer Center specialists were voted the best by their peers for 2011. Congratulations to cancer center Medical Director Walter Urba, M.D., Ph.D.; gynecologic oncologist Paul Tseng, M.D.; medical oncologists Todd Crocenzi, M.D. and Janet Ruzich, D.O.; radiation oncologists Stephen Bader, M.D., Christine Cha, M.D. and Steven Seung, M.D., Ph.D.; and surgeons John Handy, M.D., Shaghayegh Aliabadi-Wahle, M.D., and Mark Whiteford, M.D.

Battling advanced lung cancer, David Thoen got a touching surprise in February, when officials from George Fox University held a graduation ceremony for him in his hospital room at Providence Cancer Center. Thoen died two days later. Read the story and watch the video from The Oregonian.

Loch Chandler, N.D., of Providence’s Integrative Medicine Program, offered advice on healthy holiday behaviors on KPTV (Top Stories, scroll down to “Tips for Staying Healthy During the Holidays”).

Bryan Bell, M.D., medical director of Head, Neck and Oral Cancer Surgery at Providence Cancer Center, talked to KPTV (Top Stories, scroll down to “Growing Number of Cancer Patients Don’t Fit Profile”) about improved surgical techniques for head, neck and throat cancer.

Medical oncologist Anupama Kurup, M.D., appeared on KGW-TV following Elizabeth Edwards’ death from metastatic breast cancer. Dr. Kurup talked about the progress being made to treat breast cancer.
