Deep vein thrombosis risk tool now available

Providence Heart and Vascular Institute now offers a new risk-assessment tool for deep vein thrombosis. Patients can download the self-administered, self-scoring test or pick one up at our vascular disease screenings. Patients are encouraged to discuss the results with their physicians.

On the 50th anniversary of his successful implantation of the first artificial heart valve, Albert Starr, M.D., explains the extraordinary, sometimes bumpy road to innovation on ReachMD radio’s

In October, Providence honored Dr. Starr with several events celebrating this remarkable milestone. Notably, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery joined Providence in recognizing Dr. Starr’s leadership and vast contributions to medical science.

Dr. Starr’s anniversary was covered by The Oregonian, KGW-TV,
OPB and Dr. Starr’s alma mater, Columbia University.

Providence heart and vascular experts in the media

Interventional cardiologist Todd Caulfield, M.D., appeared on KXL to talk about heart-valve disease. Dr. Caulfield practices with Providence St. Vincent Heart Clinic.

Oregon Clinic cardiologist Aly Rahimtoola, M.D., appeared on KGW-TV to explain risk factors for cardiovascular disease and the importance of exercise in prevention.

Suzanne Hall, M.D., a cardiologist with Providence St. Vincent Heart Clinic, appeared on KPTV (Top Stories, scroll down) to talk about women and heart disease.

Ashkan Babaie, M.D., a surgeon and electrophysiologist with The Oregon Clinic, explained to KOIN Local 6 how 3-D computer mapping has improved cardiac ablation surgery.
